Terms and Conditions

The Spreadsheet Detective is normally licensed on an annual basis, with a substantial discount for periods of three years or longer paid in advance.  When the license period expires the user is no longer permitted to use the software.

The Spreadsheet Detective is continually enhanced with additional features, and there is no additional charge to receive these upgrades. The price includes full support during the license period.

A license may only be used by the number of individual users that are named as part of the license.  It may only be transferred from one user to another user due to long term changes to the nature of their positions.   It may not be transferred frequently to whichever users happen to be building large models at a given time.  Uses may install the software on multiple machines for their own use, the license is per user, not per device.

Audit Licenses are for users who use the tool to review and audit models produced by other people that may be internal or external to the organization.  It also includes the Ticks and Crosses report which is mainly of use to model auditors.

Analyst Licenses may only be used by people that are reviewing models that they substantially built themselves.

Small business licence  are for organizations with less than 10 employees that do not primarily engage in financial activities or provide spreadsheet, financial or management consulting to third parties.

Charities are generally entitled to free licences.  Academics wishing to use the Detective for teaching or for research into spreadsheet modelling and errors may have the tool at no cost provided they keep us informed about the results of any research.

All licences include support which includes all upgrades to the Spreadsheet Detective.  Within 30 days of delivery the customer may cancel their licence and request a full refund if, in their opinion, the Spreadsheet Detective has technical limitations that prevent it being effectively utilised.

Licenses are usually sold for a fixed period.  But if a permanent license is purchased then it is done so with the expectation that support will also be purchased for 15% of the cost of the origional license per year.  The first year's support is compulsory.

While we have taken care to produce a professional product we do not accept and explicitly disclaim any liability for the consequences of using the tool.  The software is supplied "as is" and no warranties are made as to the tool's merchantability or fitness for any particular purpose.  In no event shall we or anyone involved in the creation, production or delivery of the software be liable for any damages whatsoever arising out of the use of this software.  The entire risk arising out of the use or performance of the software remains with the purchaser and user.

We do warrant that we own the copyright on the Spreadsheet Detective.

We will maintain the confidentiality of any spreadsheets that you might send us for support.  In particular, if you tell us that they are confidential we will delete them promptly.  However, we require you to change key names and figures in a copy of the spreadsheet before sending it to us, so as to minimize the consequences of any accidental breach of confidentiality.  (Please make sure that the modified spreadsheet still exhibits the behaviour that you wish us to examine.)  We will take reasonable care, but we do not offer a security service.
